I was reading about the Elmyians who identified as descendants of the Trojans who were granted special nontaxed status by Rome, as they both considered themselves descendants of the Trojans. I’ve only read maybe 1/5th of the Iliad at this point and of course have seen Troy so maybe my view is skewed by how they painted the character’s morality.

I know there are many others at the time who also considered themselves Trojan Descendants, why do I feel like I hear this more often than taking pride in being descendants of the Mycenaeans or one of the major cities that comprised that army?
