“Planet” is short for planet-stuck and refers to sudden, severe illnesses which were attributed to the malign influences of heavenly bodies. Probably strokes, heart attacks and the like.

“Kings evil” is scrofula. Usually caused by tuberculosis this was a swelling of the lymph nodes of the neck. It was believed that the touch of a kind could cure the disease, hence the name.

“Rising of the lights” - animal lungs are still called lights by butchers today. Rising of the lights therefore literally means coughing up ones lungs. This was probably used to refer to illnesses such as croup which caused severe coughs and obstruction of the airway.

“Jawfaln” means fallen jaw. Today we know this as lock jaw i.e. tetanus.
