The TL:DR is that, while it's not really possible to provide an actual monetary value (e.g. we can't say "there was £3million of currency in circulation in 925"), the early medieval English economy from at least the mid-8th century was relatively highly monetised, and that by the 10th century, the silver penny was commonplace at basically every level of society. The distribution pattern of find sites - mostly through PAS - compared to mint sites also illustrates that coinage was very much in active circulation across the entire country, predominantly along a series of major trade routes, and was not solely limited to local or urban contexts.
