I'm interested in learning more about the Aztecs and Montezuma's life. Any recommendations for someone with a "I read the Wikipedia article" level base knowledge?

There's a number of texts on the AskHistorians booklist (you might be interested in the FAQ while you're there).

Smith and Townsend both have excellent overview works, and Aguilar-Moreno's Daily Life of the Aztecs is a great overview that covers a lot of topics on a detailed but still very readable way.
