Hello everybody

Canada and the US currently have some of the largest Jewish populations in the world. I know that most of this immigration is relatively recent, but I’m curious to learn more about Jewish immigration in colonial times (pre-revolutionary America and New-France in particular). Were Jews prevented from immigrating to the new world and/or were they ever expelled from Europe to the colonies? If there was a Jewish presence in early North America, how was their situation different then in Europe? What were the differences between French, English or even Spanish colonies concerning Jewish immigration/integration?
