Hello! I'm not sure if this is the best subreddit for such a question, but I failed to find a more suitable one.
I'm approaching the end of my high school education and have decided for a couple of years now that I will study history. Since my country isn't exactly the best in the "education" sphere, I would like to go somewhere in Europe, preferably to a place where it is at least survivable for a person roughly in the status of "not so rich, not so poor".
My interests are mostly in the topic of ancient and medieval history, including the whole globe, but especially Persia, Byzantium and China. I would like to become a teacher after university.
(I'm not exactly sure if this is important for the discussion, but I can speak English and German relatively well, can survive in Finnish and understand a bit of Russian)
I’d suggest thoroughly browsing around Europe’s best universities. The best for history in England right now are Oxford, Cambridge and Durham - however with England you face frankly unfair expenses.
I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on mainland European universities but those three are the best in Great Britain right now for my money.
The other thing about history at a university level is that - especially for my case, they make you explore areas of history you my find you have little interest in ever following up, and your third year is where you truly get license over your studying.
