I often find information about Hitler’s rise to power, using the Reichstag fire among other events to seize power. However I am keen to read exactly how things played out, what laws were passed, public reaction as it happened, etc. Summaries are nice but I would really like to understand the events that lead up to it, including resistance, laws that hitler passed to gain power, etc. I am also curious how life was in Germany after Hitler became Führer. Was there a large portion of the country that opposed him, either publicly or secretly? Did people believe what he said, or did they mostly live in fear of opposition?
I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction for books to read. I have read some things online such as this page, which gave good detail but left me even more curious.
Many thanks!
Our booklist has some really good stuff to check out, especially Evans and Kershaw. Check it out here /r/askhistorians/wiki/books
