Answers MUST be properly sourced to respectable literature. Unlike regular questions in the sub where sources are only required upon request, the lack of a source will result in removal of the answer.
Academic secondary sources are prefered. Tertiary sources are acceptable if they are of academic rigor (such as a book from the 'Oxford Companion' series, or a reference work from an academic press).
The only rule being relaxed here is with regard to depth, insofar as the anticipated questions are ones which do not require it. All other rules of the subreddit are in force.

Background: my grandfather grew up in a rural farming village in Hungary during the 1930s and early 1940s. The residents of the village spoke almost exclusively German; they only learned as much Hungarian as was needed to deal with the government.
In his autobiography, he wrote the following sentence: "We learned how to march and play sililara as National Guard or Hitler youth." (The Nazi presence was growing stronger at that time.)
I can't find any information regarding sililara. It's entirely possible he only ever heard the word spoken at that time and therefore wrote it down phonetically. Unfortunately, I can't ask him for clarification.
Might anyone here have some information regarding what "sililara" could be?

In an Anglophile world, I grew up reading Shakespeare by default. A playwright from nearly 400 years ago talking about a world that had little to do with mine. Would a philhellenic Roman of 1st century AD regard Euripides the same way? ( or Aristophanes for the comedy ). I.e. pretend to read those works to appear cleverer ( or in my case, actually reading to appear cleverer - ha! ).

Oldest Person to live in each century, before the modern age? Hi I have a question which I have been scouring the internet for sometime now. I cannot seem to find records for who the oldest person for each century was. I know it's hard to find records from before the modern age, and a lot of claims are met with uncertainty. But does anybody have like a list of the older person alive in each century, not including the modern age, so every century before the 18th century.
