I am writing a research paper on this film for a film history class, and I wanted to explore this element of the film. So far, all I have been able to find is a seemingly un-cited mention that Rossellini started out wanting to make a documentary about these child soldiers. But when I look for anything about child soldiers from this era, all I can find is information about the Hitler Youth. If there were children, operating a guerrilla campaign, such as the ones these kids in this movie are, against the Nazis and Italian Fascists, why is it so difficult to find information on the subject? Google nor my University Library Databases seem to have meaningful articles or books on the matter. Thank you for your help.
