What evidence exists for the existence of Jesus Christ?

by ShahrumSmith

Hello historians, a scientist here to pick you brains! What, if any, evidence exists for the existence of Jesus Christ the Jewish preacher. Often when people (notably theists) talk about the existence of Jesus they say “whether or not you believe he was the son of God, there is a lot of evidence that Jesus existed”. How true is this and what do historians accept as evidence?

I understand there is mention of a man named Jesus in Roman history (forgive me if this is wrong) but not until 25 years after his death. What do you deduce from this? Is this sufficient and is it reliable?

Please if you can mention anything about evidence for his existence, and the existence of people around him or in fact places such as Nazareth.

Sorry if this is a very large topic. I though, am fascinated. My Grandfather was a historian, and world for the British Museum, I’m ashamed I don’t know more!

Thanks.
