I'm sure there's something else to say about this, but apparently this is on peoples' minds these days because I just wrote another answer about Canaanite and Carthaginian child sacrifice. I'll add a few things just for this post.

The Biblical portrayal of bloodlust and disregard for human life is very clearly polemic. Everyone has described their enemies as inhumanly evil at some point. It also doesn't seem to be presented as very gory, depending on how you feel about defining being burned alive (I personally think of blood and guts when I think gore). Finally, if we're being precise, the Bible doesn't mention Carthage at all, but the Romans wrote lots about their enemies' child burning habits.
