You might be interested in the book Down & Out in the Great Depression: Letters from the "forgotten Man" edited by Robert S. McElvaine. This is a collection of letters from Americans to FDR and his wife Eleanor during the depression. It does not follow a single individual, but rather gives us perspective on what everyday challenges people were facing. McElvaine brakes the letters up into different categories and adds a foreword to each "chapter" to give context to the letters.

It's an interesting read as some of the letters are people demanding jobs, assistance, and the like while others have people asking Eleanor if she has a spare coat that they can have. In many ways the book also highlights the national dialogue that FDR was having with Americans through his Fireside Chats.

Studs Terkel’s “Hard Times” is a collection of interviews of Americans from all backgrounds of their experiences during the Great Depression. It’s very approachable and highlights how uneven the experience was. Highly recommended.
