After years of victories, my army has decided that they want to call it quits and return home. I think they've lost sight of what really matters and refuse to listen to my demands that we push on. AITA?

As the title states, my armies have been successful and victorious for nearly ten years. We've conquered the known world and beyond. After my latest victory, I made the bold choice that my army shall continue it's victorious streak and continue pushing eastward and beyond.

My men on the other hand, feel differently. I woke up this morning to discover my men now wish to return home and have no desire to continue our victorious march eastwards to lands unknown. I've tried pleading with them to no avail and now I'm just sitting in my tent writing this while they wait outside. They just don't understand...

Now I get it, being away from their families and homes for nearly ten years is a lot to ask of them, but the success we've achieved because of my cunning and decisive leadership and their fighting spirit cannot compare! Surely they must know that the sacrifices they've made and would continue to make will surely be worth while for the glory of myself and Macedon!

Surely they are overreacting here and have just lost sight of what truly matters, or AITA?

YTA. I heard Plutarch says you wept for there were no more worlds to conquer. Then where do you get off asking your men to conquer more worlds ?

INFO: Do you have a timeline for your conquering? When can your men expect a vacation? Also, since this has been going on for 10 years, are you paying them overtime?

YTA, sorry. Enough's enough. Why do need to keep conquering more?

George_S_Patton_Jr

NTA. But you probably should have slapped them more, just sayin'.

GuadalupeSlims

NAH in my opinion. You want to carve out immeasurable land and wealth for yourself in the pursuit of an ideal, and they want to see their kids. Maybe a compromise is good, like just continuing through Babylon then seeing how the guys feel?

DICTATOR-PERPETVO

NTA, it sucks when some punk-ass infantrymen decide they know better than their commander. Have you tried shaming them and saying you'll just keep conquering without them?

Moneymop1

YTA. Put down the booze and head back to Makedonia to admire the greatest empire to ever form from the Mediterranean

NTA. Malaria, schmalaria.

NTA.

I know it's hard, but in every general's life Congress the point when you have to show some... tough love to your soldiers. From their point of view their points seem to be reasonable. Seeing wives and children again, retiring in a nice house in Syria, surviving. However it's your task as their general to show them that the world can't always rotate around their interests and sometimes other things (e.g. conquering the world) are more important.

Probably some executions might do the job?
