I have heard many historians and politican debate the Southern Strategy and how the two parties "switched". Is there any truth to this? Was this actually planned or was it just a coinsidence?
More can always be said, but there's plenty in our FAQ about the two-party switch. If by "this" you mean the Southern strategy, absolutely -- Lee Atwater (among others) was completely open and candid about it.
