There's Albania the Balkan country today. There was Caucasian Albania. There's Alba referring to Scotland. There's the Alban Hills in Italy with Lake Albano and the city of Alba Longa.
Where these names a coincidence? Did people migrate to these places? Was there some ancient legendary place the inhabitants of these regions named their homeland after?
There are different theories dealing with the etymology of the name “Albania”, but the most famous one is that of the name Albanopolis and the formed state during the 15th Century named Principality of Arbër (pronounced Arbör). Another theory is that Albania means the land of Alps. Nevertheless in albanian the country is called Shqipëria (which mean the land of eagles)
Relating to Italy I can only say that there is an albanian community in southern Italy called Arbëresh. Inhabitants of Arbëria left the principality after the Ottoman Invasion in the 15th century.
