This is a question about academia. I don’t know what I’m about to ask applies just to the history discipline or all of them... but I’ll ask any way. My ultimate goal is to be a professor in either history or political science, haven’t decided yet. I’m still undergrad so I have some time. But I was talking with one of my history professors, and I mentioned that one of my strategies was to pursue short term, non-tenure track positions abroad to build up my resume once I come back to the US. Once I said this, he told me that professors very rarely do this, and if they do they almost never are able to find employment once they come back to the United States. I wanted to just run this by other people who know what they’re talking about and share their personal opinions and experiences. I really appreciate it in advance, I hope my question makes sense and fits on this subreddit...
