I've been reading a bit of Graves' White Goddess and Greek Myths lately. I've long known that Graves' theories about the goddess and the origin of Greek and other European myth are not well regarded, especially given his lack of expertise in the related fields, but I'm interested in the topic nonetheless. What are better and more up to date sources regarding the origin and development of European myth? Are there any specific books or authors I should be looking at? My interest is mostly in Greek/Roman, British Isles, and Nordic mythology.
