How did the whole theory of the Divine Right of Kings play out once Christianity started splintering? With Catholics, Protestants, Anglicans, etc....

Did a King ruling in a country where on religion nominated still recognize that a King in a country with a different branch of Christianity still have that seal of approval from God?
