I am in the midst of completing my masters degree in History and have hit a wall in picking a precise thesis. I have researched and have a great interest in the psychological warfare operations conducted during the Vietnam war. I have gathered a strong base of sources, but I still cannot put my finger on a precise thesis that is really worth writing about(approximately a lean 60 page thesis).
So I turn to you fine folk here in hopes of some advice. Does anyone here have a background in PSYOPS that may be able to suggest a potential area of exploration that I could progress with?
If I may ask, what primary source base are you using? While it is fantastic that you have gathered a strong base of sources (clearly very important), it seems that you have been unable to find any gaps in current scholarship to explore. This is considerably rare when it comes to psychological warfare during the Vietnam War which has a great many potential areas to work with. One that I would personally recommend is is the visual and auditory aspect of the Chieu Hoi program and the efforts by the South Vietnamese government to rally PLAF and PAVN defectors. This would give you the opportunity to engage with sources in English and Vietnamese, something very appropriate for a graduate student studying the Vietnam War, and allow you to get a feel of where the current scholarship (which is decisively non-US centric) is right now.
