How much of the concept of Droit du seigneur or "Prima Nocta", the practice of lords or royalty having sexual relations with lower women on their wedding nights, is a myth and how much is based in reality?

Most research suggests that this is a myth or only loosely based in truth, but if that's the case, why does the concept seem so pervasive in certain historical narratives? Logistically it seems that it could cause more problems than it would be worth for the lords regarding legitimate/illegitimate children. Just wondering where this came from and how much is really a "myth".

This has actually come up before! These two answers, this one by u/idjet and this one by u/sunagainstgold, address whence the myth arises.
