So here goes nothing. I have never made a post like this but I would like some help from the community here. My great grandfather was a S/Sgt in WWII and he passed before I knew him he received a purple heart (which unfortunately was stolen and melted when I was in elementary school). But I would like to know more about him and his military career. If you guys know any resources or places I could look to start venturing through this rabbit hole of records please drop them in the comments
Edit:for those who want to know more of the story turns out we was awarded not one but two purple hearts in combat.
Hello there! As your question is related to looking for identification/information regarding military personnel, our Guide on Military Identification may be of use to you. It provides a number of different resources, including how to request service records from a number of national agencies around the world, as well as graphical aids to assist in deciphering rank, unit, and other forms of badges or insignia. While the users here may still be able to lend you more assistance, hopefully this will provide a good place to start!
