I'm a medical student (soon to be doctor) and while I've learnt much about modern medicine, I haven't learnt much about the history and development of medicine, and so would appreciate any recommendations for books/articles related to this.
Time period, culture, methodology/analytic framework - I don't mind - anything is fine. It doesn't have to be a history of Western medicine (though that is what I have trained in, and I am only able to read English).

I don’t have a specific recommendation but generally Hippocrates would be a good place to start considering he’s often referred to as the “father of medicine.” Him and his followers were the first to describe many diseases and medical conditions and attribute them to natural causes rather than the will of the gods. He died in 370 BC so naturally a lot of his writings are fragmented and most of those attributed to him probably aren’t actually his. That being said there are tons of books and articles that have been written about him that are worth checking out
