Being in quarantine so long has got me thinking. For sieges like the Siege of Candia (which lasted 21 years), do we have any journals or testimonies from civilians who suddenly found themselves spending years behind walls or trapped in their cities?
We have primary sources for sieges going back to ancient times but one siege that comes to mind is the Siege of Leningrad during WW2 which lasted 872 days and resulted in 2 millions lives lost including 800,000 civilians (40% of the cities population at the time). Since it’s recent history some survivors are still alive today and many kept diaries so there are tons of eyewitness accounts to go through as well as footage.
