Europe in the Interwar period was plagued by authoritarian regimes and dictatorships such as Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and many more. My question is: How many (and which) countries remained democratic in Europe at the lowest point of Democracy (before the war) and what was the political status of smaller, more unknown countries during that period f.e The Baltics, Finland, Poland etc.
i can't be that specific, but i know for sure that in that period, there were many authoritarian governments, even if they had a parliament
czechoslovakia, norway, sweden, finland, republican spain, switzerland, denmark, ireland are the one that i can think of, maybe also lithuania estonia and finland
as for bulgaria, romania and yugoslavia, i think those governments were too much king revolving and the parliament wasn't very free to be considered a democracy
