Why did Benito Mussolini break with the Italian socialist party to found the Italian fascist party? I was researching about the Italian fascist government and its origins, so this doubt arose, what was the reason for separating from the socialists and founding the Italian fascist party?
I looked in some places but I couldn't find an answer, if you can help, thank you
The Great War. Among other things - but the war is a good summary for all those things. I wrote something about the process and causes here.
Just to be clear, Mussolini left the Italian Socialist Party in October 1914 - the first Fascio di Combattimento was founded in March 1919 - the National Fascist Party in November 1921. So, it wasn't an immediate transition. Mussolini didn't think about founding a party in October-November 1914 and therefore didn't leave (technically, he was expelled) in order to found a party. So the reasons for the two events, while both tying back to the intervention and to the experience of the war, should not be conflated together.
