What effect did the Red Scare have on the US' decision to use nuclear bombs against japan in 1945?

by King_bellerton

I was wondering what about the Red scare, and thought it would be interesting to know how it effected the US's desicion to use nuclear bombs against Japan.

I have been having a hard time finding any reliable reading material about this. I would therefore love it, if i could get a link to do some reading together with any info you give me.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not really sure what link you're postulating — but if you are interested in the question of how much the use of the atomic bomb had to do with the Soviet Union rather than Japan, the term to search for (on AskHistorians and elsewhere is the "Alperovitz thesis." Gar Alperovitz argued some years back (he was not the first to do so, but he did it very prominently) that the bomb was dropped to scare the Soviets (the thesis has its benefits and its detriments, as you'll find if you search for it).
