What's the actually origin of Ahir people?

by Brahmoevsky

Ahir is usually considered a caste in India. Some say Yadava (Ahirs, according to some) is actually a race rather than a caste. there are different theories. I'd really appreciate a well explained answer. Thankyou.

So I was searching for India in this sub and found this. What I believe is Ahir Community is the descendant of Abhira Tribe of Vedic Era. Post Mahabharat,to be precise 36 years later Kurukshetra War,Arjun was bringing Yadav Women and Children who survived the curse of Gandhari. On his way he was attacked by the Abhir Tribe who took away them. http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m16/m16008.htm Thus they have Maternal Lineage from Yadavas. Some of the Ahirs established small kingdoms such as that of Karauli and Rewari but majority of them continued to be farmers and what we say Gwalas.
