Hi all! as you can tell from the title, I am looking for academic literature regarding Romanticism and it's influence on 20th Century Politics. Specifically, nationalism, radicalism, and conservatism. Which, more or less became mutually exclusive to the rise of Nazism & Fascism. Thanks in advance!
I greatly enjoyed this article entitled Effects of German Romanticism on National Socialist Education Policies: “Steely Romanticism," which can be found here https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1241042.pdf The authors trace how Romantic German literature and philosophy influenced Hitler directly. They also discuss how these ideas influenced the treatment of youth in Nazi Germany. I found their argument that Romanticism is paired with destruction to be very compelling.
