In terms of the revolution, are there any recommended books on how the war was actually won i.e tactics, deployments, battle descriptions, socioeconomic factors?
For general histories, John Ferling's Whirlwind: The American Revolution and the War that Won It. is quite good, solidly researched, well written. Don Higginbotham's The War for American Independence is also good, perhaps a bit more descriptive of the military course of the war than Ferling's, if that's your main interest.
