In North America, with Protestant and Anglican colonies, their was no hierarchy of saving souls, just more that people were of Christ or they weren’t.
Spanish missionaries tried to save and convert whereas English missionaries viewed savages as heathens to be exterminated.
Both were founded upon racist views, the Spanish just had a lowly place on the social hierarchy for natives, specifically Indios.
The modern day tanner skinned Mexican is the product of either pure Indio blood line, or a mix of Indio and Spanish, known as mestizo.
