To what extent did the culture and religions in early-to-mid Qing Dynasty China (16th to 19th centuries) keep imperialistic ambitions contained to East Asia (in comparison to European entities and powers)?

Simply put, Qing imperialistic ambitions were not contained to East Asia. This older answer of mine covers the motives behind Qing conquests in Central and Inner Asia, regions that had not been under 'Chinese' dominion since the 9th century AD, and thus firmly outside the East Asian cultural sphere.
