After seeing all the protesting going on in Minneapolis I’m regards to the murder of George Floyd. I was wondering was the Civil Rights Movement won through peaceful protest only or did more “aggressive” types of protesting play a role as well too?

I’m wondering this, because I see people say aggressive/violent protesting is not the answer, however I’ve noticed the countless of other peaceful protesting in regards to police overstepping their boundaries has had little to no affect on the matter. I’ve also heard most revolutions involved a lot of violence before any real change took place, is this true?
