Use of history in the series "The Last kingdom".

So, I've been wondering; what is the use of history in this series? What is the point of using this specific anglo-saxon history? Is there a point to prove?

Hi there, could you maybe clarify what you mean by your question slightly? Do you mean "why is it set in 9th century England?" or do you mean "how close is it to real events of 9th Century England?"
