Hi guys!
The time when Shu (Zhuge Liang) fought so much against Wei (Sima Yi) where was Wu???
I mean they suddenly disappear in the series.
Do they disappear in the books too(please no spoiler) ??
Because they had the Shu Wu Alliance fight but after the fight they teamed up again but they never were in the series again
Ok going to try to keep this vague to avoid spoilers. Doing a quick glance through the ZZTJ: From Zhuge Liang's first NC to his last, Wu historically were involved in (counting just vs Wei) 5 offensive camapigns (remove one if not counting reinforcing Meng Da), 1 defensive (counting Shi Ting as defensive). There was a pause while Sun Quan moved capital and became Emperor and miliatry camapigns elsewhere , a failed attempt to lure Wei in, maneuvering with Gongsun Yuan which included troops
However the novel which has had more cultural impact has 1 offensive (on Shu's prompting while being rushed through so we can return to Zhuge Liang), 1 defensive, fails to attack when promised 2. Becomes Emperor. What Gongsun? What invasions elsewhere?
Historically Wei vs Wu was the main battle line when it come to the three kingdoms, it was the front Cao Pi (before then) and Cao Rui personally fought at and where Wei attacks were concentrated, where major work like rebuilding Hefei was done. Wei had let down their guard after Liu Bei's death and were cuaght by surprise when Zhuge Liang first invaded but when push came to shove, Cao Rui focused on Wu rather then Shu.
In the novel, this changes. This time becomes Zhuge Liang vs Sima Yi, the grand battle of the super strategists, Wu (and some Wei generals) does not fit into that. They become passive, needing prompting to invade and an unreliable ally to Zhuge Liang. More camapigns are added to Zhuge Liang including fake Wei invasion of Shu, Wei figures panic about Zhuge Liang, Wu camapigns are removed. Wu is very very much the third wheel of the triumvirate
The show seems to be following the novel "Shu vs Wei" rather then the history
