In terms of book recommendations for the SOE, MRD Foot was the official historian of the SOE, as well as a serving intelligence officer in World War 2 so his works are worth a look. In particular:

The SOE in France: An Account of the Work of the British Special Operations Executive in France 1940–1944 (1966) (try and make sure you're reading the revised edition from 2000)

SOE, The Special Operations Executive 1940–1946 (1984)

SOE in the Low Countries (2001)

If you're looking for accounts from SOE agents themselves, then Ill Met by Moonlight (1950 but various editions since then) is the account of two SOE agents who kidnapped a German General from Crete, and their contacts with the Cretan resistance.
