Follow-up question: Where is this quote from, and more importantly, what geographic region/ethnic group was Engels talking about when he wrote this? While we wait for an answer, it might help to know some more details. I'm asking because, despite their many valuable observations of Western European society, both Engels and Marx engaged in the same type of awful 19th century Euro-centrist anthropology as many of their contemporaries.
