Is it true that Ancient Romans did not discriminate based on skin colour?

I saw a post claiming that Ancient Romans didn’t discriminate based on skin colour but did discriminate based on wealth. I’m very new to this topic so I couldn’t find anything to back this up.

Romans (and other people in the ancient world) had a very different understanding of "race" as a concept than we do -- our modern notions of race are very much a product of the transatlantic slave trade. This section of our FAQ has quite a bit of information that may be of interest to you.
