Soviet pins history?

by dantegamer03

Hey all!

A friend of mine recently came across some old pins from the USSR and gave me some. I don’t know much about the historical purpose of these pins, but they are quite fascinating to me and I’d love to learn more about them.I Any insight that you guys have would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know how relevant to history these are, most of them are souvenirs. Pin collecting was a popular hobby in the USSR (like stamp collecting), so you see a lot of these. In order:

  • Zvenigorod

  • Kharkov

  • One of the few pins that isn't a souvenir, this one identifies the bearer as a Youth Sportsman in Light Athletics 2nd Class. The USSR made a lot of these for various sports, you'd have standardized tests that qualify you for different levels (3rd, 2nd, 1st, Master).

  • Ape Habitat of the Experimental Pathology and Therapy Research Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR

  • I don't recognize these two.

  • Donetsk

  • 200 year anniversary of the founding of Krivoy Rog

  • Minsk. The Gold Star medal signifies that this is one of the Hero Cities, earning this title during the Great Patriotic War.

  • Young Friend of Russian Nature (looks like some kind of environmentalism pin)

  • Flenovo

  • Vladimir (the city, not the person)
