Examples contemporary to the revolution, I mean. In particular complaining that it was terrorism and that it wasn’t the way to make a change?
The American Revolution looked more like a Civil War than what the history textbooks portray. Patriotism began as a radical fringe of Americans. Loyalism and patriotism cut across all sectors and lines of society. Loyalists made up about one-third of the colonists, with another third being patriotic. Many were ambivalent, or were able to see both sides so didn’t take a side. The Loyalist press was very active and vocal. Todd Andrlik wrote a book about the Patriot and Loyalist press, “Reporting the Revolutionary War.” Newspapers didn’t pull punches, and those who wrote in to the editor used very florid language.
