I’ve never been able to properly wrap my head around the Electoral College and it’s use in the Presidential election. Why haven’t we moved on to the popular vote which, in my opinion, is a much more straightforward approach to the whole circus.
More can be said, but a couple months ago /u/lord_mayor_of_reddit put together this compilation of answers and some commentary, with responses by myself and (with much better answers) /u/uncovered-history and /u/AvTheMarsupial. These answer why it was made in the first place, though they don’t go into why the US has not replaced it since.
