I recently found out that in Vietnam the American “percent that died is similar to other wars, amputations or crippling wounds were 300 percent higher than in World War II”. Why is this the case?
Can you please provide your source on KIA rates remaining constant? According to the VA stats I am pulling the KIA percentage went from 1.9% of deployed in Korea to 1.4% in Vietnam. The best comparison for WWII (not apples to apples) is 1.8% of total force. So a bigger decrease when accounting for non-deployed forces.
The VA attributes that decrease to improved medevac procedures, improvements in blood transfusions, and hospital infrastructure.
