We trialled the networking platform just a few days ago - can confirm that it was very fun, and only occasionally excruciatingly awkward, so we're well on our way to doing better than RL conferences!
I'm really looking forward to this! I love going to conferences in my own field, but as a non-historian I can't really justify going to a history conference so this perfect!
Not sure if I can join, it's like 1.00 in the morning in my time but I'll definitely check the recordings!
After months of unemployment, I finally get an internship, and this is the week I start‽ Naturally. I hope I can squeeze some time in for something.
Among the many wonderful events we'll be hosting, we've already confirmed that /u/Gankom, the elusive commander of the Sunday Digest, has in fact hired an actor is a real person. You don't wanna miss out on that!
Really looking forward to this! History isn't my area anymore but /r/AskHistorians has always been dear to me heart!
Cheeky edit: The conference roundtables sound really interesting. Can't wait to see how you cover quantitative data in modern history methods and contemporary issues.
This seems wonderfully interesting, thanks!
If I plan on watching things live but don't believe I have anything to contribute, is it worth it to register or should I just follow things on your YouTube channel or something?
Also: props for the titles of those events. They're fantastic!
Are there any restrictions on who can come? Like age or knowledge?
This looks absolutely fantastic and can I just say, thank you for putting in this much effort and work!
I'd really like to join, but as I'm working on an essay at the moment, would it be alright to register for all (since some topics really fascinate me) and only be available at certain times/panels? I wouldn't want to seem rude to the contributers.
Yo this is sick great job guys can’t wait to tune in
Sorry if this was already been explained and I'm just not following along properly. For your panels, such as Indigenous Histories Disrupting Yours, is it that a pre-recorded panel is going to be going live on XYZ day/time, and then there will be a corresponding AMA on Reddit as well? Or is it that these will be live panels and then there will be AMAs as well?
I'm registering, but I'm a tad bit nervous. I'm only a undergrad in college, but my plan is to become a professor. This might seem like a silly question, but is there anything that I need to do to prepare for this? How will things kinda go?
This sounds really cool! I wish I wasn’t in school during all of them.
I am excited!!
Does anyone know what the name of the painting in the third picture is where there is a bunch of people laughing at a table?
Looking really cool, and amazing artwork.
Thank you!!!
I signed up to one but not sure what the platform will be. It’s the Atomic Bomb one, a long interest of mine. I couldn’t say I’ve much of an interest i’m history but lurk here. How am watching this one?
Ah it’s zoom. Can I remain so not seen and be quiet. I’m just watching this curiously.
I noticed that some of the networking events seemed to overlap. Can you go to multiple ones taking place at the same time such as the Ancient and Medieval Era Sessions? Are they part of the same thing? It kind of looks like they are, but I'm not sure.
I don't know if anyone else are having these problems, but I can't see all the pictures past the 2nd one....
u/Gregory_H_Zhukov maybe you can help?
By now hopefully you have heard we're hosting an online Conference right here on the subreddit from Sept 15-17. We have a ton of exciting things planned and we don't want you to miss any of it!
Interested in watching the live keynote, "The Atomic Bomb and Visions of the New Post War Order", from /u/restricteddata?!
We'll also be hosting live networking events using Remo. We'll have sessions geared towards academics, GLAM professionals, a META session to talk shop about AskHistorians itself, and several sessions for general 'history chit-chat' broken down by time period. Sign up for as many as you want, but space is limited of course so don't delay! We're also super pleased to note that Fordham University Press is sponsoring the networking, which not only allowed us to increase the capacity with Remo, but also means we'll have several of their history editors attending sessions., for all you would-be publishees?
Want to see it all? The full schedule is now available, so make sure to mark these down on your calendar! All Panels will be released on YouTube and perpetually accessible from their date onwards. Time refers to the AMA with the panelists that will be hosted on reddit.
