Today:
You know the drill: this is the thread for all your history-related outpourings that are not necessarily questions. Minor questions that you feel don't need or merit their own threads are welcome too. Discovered a great new book, documentary, article or blog? Has your Ph.D. application been successful? Have you made an archaeological discovery in your back yard? Did you find an anecdote about the Doge of Venice telling a joke to Michel Foucault? Tell us all about it.
As usual, moderation in this thread will be relatively non-existent -- jokes, anecdotes and light-hearted banter are welcome.
The Conference was an amazing time! I truly hope everyone goes and checks out the videos, Q&A's and megathreads! You can find day 1 here, Day 2 and Day 3. Plus the Keynote here!.
Hi. Mods asked me to post here as I was providing an update on the potential slave grave(s) found on my property in rural GA.
Here's my original post: https://old.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/itcs8y/i_think_there_is_a_slave_grave_on_my_property_ga/
Here's the update post I just made with much more details unearthed: https://old.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/ivbjzr/i_have_found_unmarked_graves_on_my_property_in/?
Can someone help me determine if J H Mapp owned slaves in this location?

What's the greatest love story in history?
Are there any free resources with historical information on par with posts from here? I've exhausted the FAQs and I want more things to read.
I've noticed that Wikipedia is pretty bad when it comes to factual accuracy and readability.
I would kill to find a massive resource with lots of articles to read about different historical subjects. I am pretty low income so I can't really afford to get past academic paywalls - a college tuition is beyond my means
For people interested in Japanese history, there'll be a panel AMA including a few flairs from here (/u/LTercero and /u/ParallelPain at least, please let me know if I missed anyone!) over on /r/ghostoftsushima at 7am EST tomorrow! RIGHT NOW!!

From a historical POV, what is the probability that there will be a USSR-style purge of universities in the United States in the near future?
I'm a grad student in the USA, and I'm basically trying to evaluate if I should be taking measures for my own safety.
