Will subsequent conferences have consecutive interpretation or subtitles in multiple languages? The international nature of the conference would make it hard to do sign interpretation. I was thinking first of Spanish because of your flair, but other languages would be great.
After weeks of hype, and a few days of sweet, sweet reality, it’s time to pack away all our seasonal conference decorations and go back to business as usual.
This is one last, short video on behalf of the conference team, to say thank you to our sponsors, participants and guests, and to highlight what we have all collectively achieved. We’re all immensely proud to have been part of something genuinely new and ambitious, not just for our forum but also for Reddit and the public humanities more broadly. We hope you’re proud as well – none of this would have been possible without the support and participation of the community as a whole.
Though the conference is itself now history, I’d highlight that the content itself will live on. For those of you that missed it, the fantastic keynote address by u/restricteddata is now available to watch, alongside all our other conference panels. The two roundtables, held live during the conference itself, will be dropping soon as podcast episodes, so even if you’ve already managed the heroic task of watching each and every talk, there will be some more content to look forward to.
This will not be the last time that AskHistorians dips its toe into the world of digital scholarly events. Quite aside from the current circumstances, what we helped show last week is that digital platforms don’t have to be about just trying to replicate in-person events, but rather that they offer the scope to change scholarly conversations for the better. We’ve learned a lot this year, and as mentioned in the video, we’re keen to hear from and help anyone seeking to build on these lessons for their own projects, in history or beyond.
That brings us to the favour we’d like to ask. We want to learn more ourselves – not just about the back-end logistics and conceptual frameworks, but also the experience. Please take a little time to fill out the survey, and let us know what we got right, and where you’d like to see improvements.
Once again – thank you all so much for helping make the AskHistorians Digital Conference 2020 such a success. See you again next year!
