I am answering a question on if the Scandinavian invasions were more significant towards forming England than the Norman invasions. I have a few books lined up but I'm just wondering if anyone knows of anything specific that would be good.
Thanks!
I would recommend:
Molyneaux's The Formation of the Kingdom of the English in the Tenth Century
Dumville and Blackburn's Kings, Currency and Alliances
Roach's Æthelred the Unready
Strickland's Anglo-Norman Warfare
Baker, Brookes and Reynold's Landscapes of Defence
Baker and Brookes' Beyond the Burghal Hidage
Stafford's After Alfred
Lavelle's Alfred's Wars and The Danes in Wessex
Scragg's Edgar: King of the English
I'm sure the proper specialists in ASE like /u/BRIStoneman and/u/Steelcan909 can provide much more interesting selections than mine, but I can list some of the books on late Anglo-Saxon England/ the British Isles under the threat of the Vikings.
There have in fact kind of flood of the excellent individual/specific works on this topic in last 20-25 years, but I unfortunately see relative dearth of the good up-to-date overviews for general readers that made use of this state of research.
