Was the resurrection of Jesus Christ historically accurate?

I am by no means Christian. I heard my 6th grade social studies teacher say this and I wonder about the accuracy about this. I have nothing against her, I just want some confirmation.

Hi -- you may be interested in this section of our FAQ which covers Christianity and the historicity of Jesus.

To summarize, most historians who study the period believe Jesus to have most likely been a real person; but historians don't theorize on whether or not the miraculous events that the Gospel authors write about are true.

Whether or not Jesus rose from the dead is something that a theologian -- someone who studies religion and religious belief -- might have an opinion on.

The question for historians is what contemporary people (those who lived at the time of the events being described) might think about stories of a miraculous rebirth, and how it affects their views of the world and their understanding of their own selves. So we might ask "how is the resurrection described" and "what purpose does the resurrection serve in Christianity," questions like that.
