Help finding a Timeline making program

by JokersLastLaugh

I am hoping someone can give me an answer or send me to a better place to ask this question.

Do you know of a good program to make my own custom timelines?

Of course there are hundreds on Google, but I haven't found any that support what I want to do, so let me explain:

I am a huge history fan. I love listening to podcasts about all periods of history, and my favourite is Rome. I have listened to The History of Rome and The History of Byzantium podcasts, plus material from other sources, and want to go back and re-listen while recording all important events, dates, characters, etc. I want to take this information and input it onto a timeline to help me visualize and compare things that interest me within the history.

Some Features I want or need:

-I want it to run horizontally, not vertically

-It needs to be able to have both BC and AD dates added

-I want to be able to work on different timelines and then be able to use them together. For example I'd like one that deals with wars & battles, another that deals in emperors and major characters, another that deals in cultural or political changes, etc. After I have these separate timelines I'd like to be able to turn them off or on, like a filter, to see them all together on one timeline. I hope that made sense. This isn't mandatory but would be a fantastic feature.

Thank you for any information on a place to look or a place to ask.

You may want to try Teamweek. It's mainly intended for businesses but I don't see why it couldn't also be used for historical timelines.

With it you can make multiple timelines and easily view them side-by-side. You can also add written notes, web links, and images to the timelines.
