I'm putting together a list of 10-15 books for a graduate level independent study on 20th century US diplomacy. I've already got Gaddis and Williams so what other books would y'all recommend? I'm hoping to find books on less known/talked about events (i.e. not WWI or WW2).
“In the Garden of Beasts” by Erik Larson is a great public history book that focuses on the social (more than the political) aspect of diplomacy between the U.S. and Nazi Germany. It is a public history, so I’m not sure if you’ll want to cite it directly, but it uses excellent primary sources from U.S. Ambassador William Dodd that you’ll likely find helpful!
