I feel when thinking about Cold War history, not much attention is given to average soviet citizens and their lives. What were some common hobbies among the citizens? Similar to this, did they have non-political events to go to, such as sports, movies, theatre etc.?
As this is not my professional area, I will refrain from an answer, but due to personal interests I have a primary source reference. Soviet Life magazine was published starting in the 1950s and continues to this day as Russian Life. This magazine was sort of an exchange program - Soviet Life was distributed in the US, and Amerika was distributed in the USSR.
