Why did the Philippines retain most if not all native languages while South American countries colonized by Spain switch to Spanish?

by Paqmahn

And to add are there other countries colonized by Spain that didn't completely change their national language to Spanish as well?

Mainly because the Spaniards didn't deal with us Filipinos the same way they did their closer colonies. More can always be said on the matter, so any further input is welcome, especially on the part about other Spanish-colonised countries; for the meantime, u/KippyPowers has examined the language issue, and also has a further examination on how it went down.
